Beyond Eating, Sleeping, Shopping, and Makeup

According to Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs, trivial things like shopping and makeup are something one only looks for when a whole list of more important matters have been addressed. Food (eating) being the most important on Maslow's hierarchy of needs. And how right he is.

Growing up in the west where food (generally) is plentiful, we humans have moved on to calling other things as needs that - in reality - are just wants.

Here is the kicker though: despite having all our real needs fulfilled, and a ton of our wants as well, the stress levels in the west has skyrocketed through the roof. People are depressed, have heart issues, are dying slow painful deaths, etc. All because of stress!

So here is a quick reminder that - if you find yourself stressing despite having all your real "needs" met - you're blessed.
  • If you got enough food on your table and are able to chose what you want to eat at each meal, you are blessed. Extremely blessed. Not everyone has this luxury. Ponder that blessing!
  • If you have a comfortable bed to sleep in each night in a safe home, you are blessed beyond measure. There are likely a bunch of people in your very city that don't have this luxury. Ponder this blessing!
  • If you have stores nearby that are stocked with everything you absolutely need to live, you are blessed. There are whole countries in the world where people depend on government rations to live.
  • If you have a makeup back in your bathroom or lip-balm in your purse, you are blessed. Chances are all your other needs are met at such a proportion that you had time and money to think about simple things like makeup.
No matter where you are in life, look at what you have and what you have going for you. You are a beautiful individual blessed in more ways than you'll ever know.
